CUP REPLAY.
OLD KINGSIONIANS v. REDHILL.
PLAY ABANDONED OWING TO FAILING LIGHT.
Following the
draw of two goals each at Redhill, the above teams met in the re-play
on the Norbiton Sports Ground on Saturday. The Redhill eleven did not
arrive, however, until an hour and a-quarter after the advertised time
for the kick-off, owing to delay on the journey caused by the breakdown
of their motor conveyance. In consequence of the late start, the light
was very poor when the second half had been entered upon, and play had
eventually to be abandoned ten minutes before time. The score then was
two goals to one in Redhill's favour. Mansey scored for the Old Kingstonians
and Maxted and C. Wakeman for Redhill.
Redhill kicked off, and had a fine opportunity to score in the first minute,
but the shot was tame, and rolled harmlessly past the post. The Lobsters
were still dangerous, but Adams relieved with it big kick, and it was
left to O.K.'s to open the score. A fine individual effect by Chalk tested
the goalie, Rose, and before he could kick clear Mansey had the ball in
the net. A free kick for a foul throw-in by Blanchard was taken by Mann,
and he made a good effort to score, his shot just skimming the cross-bar.
Yet another
free-kick to Redhill again was given by Blanchard. Mann led up to Redhill
equalising, the ball going to the foot of Maxted, who made no mistake.
Stuckey was playing finely at left-half, and was setting his left wing
going at every opportunity. Wilson got away on the left, and centred for
Chalk to obtain an off-side goal. Redhill at this period were playing
more together than the O.K.'s, and C. Wakeman on the right, being unmarked,
scored a second goal for Redhill.
After the interval, the O.K.'s attacked vigorously, but Mann and Webb
were very safe at back, and easily dealt with the attack. The play in
this half was decidedly poor, there being far too much aimless kicking.
Redhill were certainly playing "keeps," as the ball was continually
kicked into touch when it could easily have been cleared. Just before
the game was stopped, J. Mann was ordered off the field for an alleged
insult to the referee. It was now very difficult to follow the movements
of the ball, the light being very bad, but the O.K.'s were playing desperately
hard for an equalizer, and forced several corners, which were of no avail.
The game was then abandoned by order of the referee, ten minutes from
time.

Cup.
Having drawn at Redhill in the F.A. Cup competition on Oct. 24, Old Kingstonians
were at home on Saturday for the re-play. Redhill arrived so late that
the game was abandoned ten minutes before the proper time, the score being
2-1 in favour of Redhill, whose left back, J. Mann, was ordered off the
field in the second half.

FOOTBALL.
ENGLISH CUP.
OLD KINGSTONIANS v. REDHILL.
Redhill were
distinctly unfortunate on Saturday on the occasion of their re-played
tie with Old Kingstonians at Norbiton in the qualifying stage of the English
Cup competition. Redhill journeyed by road, and trouble in connection
with the tyre of the motor 'bus by which the team travelled delayed their
arrival, so that the match had to be abandoned some ten minutes before
time owing to failing light. This was a great misfortune to the Reds,
as they had put up a splendid fight, and were leading by two goals to
one when hostilities were suspended.
Redhill,
upon the ball being put in motion, demonstrated their capability and nearly
scored in the first minute, but it was the O.K.'S who took the lead, Mansey
scoring ten minutes from the start. Redhill soon equalized, Maxted heading
in from a free kick, and Wakeman put them in front. At half-time they
led 2-1.
The quality
of the play deteriorated in the second half, and there was a quite unnecessary
amount of vigour. To the surprise of the members of his side, Jack Mann
was ordered off the field, some question having arisen as to the referee
giving a home forward off-side, who appeared to have played the ball from
his own half. Nothing was scored in the curtailed second half. Referee;
Mr. J. Hird.
