Report on death of Arthur Bowry from Surrey Comet dated 7th July 1917.

Lance-Corporal Bowry, who was 23 years of age, joined the Surrey Yeomanry in October, 1914, but in September, 1916, he proceeded to the Western Front and was attached to a battalion of the East Surrey Regiment, in which he was serving when he met his death. An old boy of Malden College and Rutlish School, Merton, he always took a keen interest in healthy sport, and was brilliant in the goal of Kingston F.C. His reputation as a footballer he maintained while undergoing his military training at home, and on proceeding to the Front his services in goal were always in demand when matches with teams from other units were played. He was killed during the advance on June 7, being struck in the head by a fragment of shell while advancing with his section. Lance-Corporal Bowry was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Bowry of 42, Acacia-grove, New Malden.
