Report on match from behind the lines between Kingston and Maidstone from Surrey Comet dated 20th Feb 1915.

FOOTBALL BEHIND FIRING LINE
Pte. W. J. Carter of the C Section, 83rd Field Ambulance has sent home from the Front the following description of a football match of interest to our readers which was written by a chum, Pte. W. Randall:- A match was played on the 10th February between teams picked from Kingston and Maidstone men of C Section of the 83rd Field Ambulance. The ground was in a bad state and very little good football was seen. Kingston kicked off at 2.30 before a few spectators. Maidstone at once pressed, but Gleeson, who played a fine game, came to the rescue and cleared with a huge kick, which sent the Kingston men towards the Maidstone goal. After twenty minutes' play, Crozier scored for Maidstone. At half-time Maidstone were leading 1-0.

At the re-start Kingston again pressed, but had hard luck in not scoring after some pretty play in front of the Maidstone goal. Again Maidstone got away and Kerry scored. After this reverse, Kingston played with much more determination, and Carter, who had played well, scored a fine goal. From the kick-off Kingston pressed further, and Gleeson scored two fine goals within ten minutes. Subsequently Kingston fell away and Maidstone taking up the running Davis scored. Maidstone now had most of the play, and recorded two more goals through Woolley and Kerry. The teams were glad when the match was finished having been well plastered with mud.

Result: Maidstone 5, Kingston 3.
The teams were:-
Kingston: Dolton, Gleeson and W. Hodge; H. Bryan, Peck and Teague; Carter, Randall, Ford, Newman and Wheeler.
Maidstone: Penfold; Woolley and Greenaway; Norris, H.B. Martin and A.T. Baker; Crozier, Moore, Kerry, E. Baters and Davis.
Referee. Pte. Nettle.
After the match a concert was held under the chairmanship of Corporal W. Hodge.
