SURREY
JUNIORS v. MIDDLESEX JUNIORS
This match war played on the Kingston Rugby ground yesterday afternoon
in fine weather. Surrey played downhill at the outset and pressed.
From a corner Stevens scored. Shortly afterwards Elkin equalised for Middlesex.
The Surrey men, however, came again, and Vincent placed them ahead. From
a good run Windett equalized, and at half-time the score was two goals
all.
With the hill in their favour, Middlesex showed their superiority, and
after forcing a corner Pugh scored. After a short spell of even play Middlesex
obtained another goal. Surrey then had a look in, but failed to add to
their score and Middlesex getting down again Dand scored the fifth goal.
McDavid by a splendid piece of play scored for Surrey, but Middlesex won
by five goals to three.
The score about represents the difference in the teams. McDavid, the Surrey
centre forward, played excellently, but lacked support at times, while
Windsor and the right and left wing forwards deserve mention. On the Middlesex
side Dallas kept goal well, while Windett at centre half was very clever.
Dand, Crisp, and Howell also deserve mention.
