Preview of the season from Kingston & Surbiton News dated 25th September 1897.

Kingston-on-Thames will not be as strong as last year, for they have lost several capable men. Lanham, their goal-keeper, will not play regularly; Short, Baker, and Fagan, three very good defenders, have left the town; and Grant, one of the best forwards the club have ever had, has joined Hounslow F.C., presumably because Kingston-on-Thames decided not to enter for the senior cup. The second team started the season with a loss on Saturday, and unless some promising recruits can be added the prospects are not what one would wish for the premier club of the town.
