The
great progress made during the season just closed by the Kingston-on-Thames
Association Football Club, both in the playing of the game and in popularity,
was made more than ever apparent by the large attendance at the annual
general meeting on Monday night at their headquarters, the Cricketers,
and the proceedings were marked by a unanimity that bodes well for even
greater success in the future.

report in original format.Councillor Glover was in the chair, and although he tackled the lengthy agenda with all his usual briskness, "Time, gentlemen," was announced before the last item was reached. The report was, perhaps, the best the club has yet been able to produce, as the committee could congratulate the members upon their good position as runners-up in the Surrey Junior Cup competition, and also as having won the cup and medals in the first division of the Kingston and District League. Financially, too, the club stands well, as a balance of £8 11s. 6d. is carried forward to next season's account. Some changes in the list of officers were made, especial regret being expressed that Mr. C. Bartlett was compelled to give up the post of honorary secretary. The duties will now be divided between Mr. J. Ellison, who will act as general secretary, and Mr. J. Douglas, as match secretary. It was decided to again enter the Kingston League, and to go for both the Senior and Junior Surrey cups. There was some difference of opinion as to the advisability of entering for both cups, and we are of opinion that it would be better for the club to win the Junior cup before again entering for the Senior, of which the members have had some experience in the past. The playing strength of the club will undoubtedly be much stronger next season, and that strength would, we venture to think, be better used in first getting hold of the Junior cup. KINGSTON-ON-THAMES ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Members of this popular club was held on Monday evening, at the head quarters, the Cricketers, Fairfield. Councillor J. Glover presided, and there were also present Messrs. F. Lanham (captain), C. Bartlett (honorary secretary), W. G. Carn, J. P. Asher, C. Collings, J. Onley, W. Hall, H. C. Short, Daws, sen. and jun., J. Simms, A. Peck, J. Henwood, J. Kemp, C. Spearing, J. Ellison, W. Ocock, F. Ansell, A.Buckwell, C. Richards, L. Ware, W. Fish, Marshall, McDonald, Edwards, J. Tully, Compton, W. Mawson, B. Hall, W. Hutchison, W. Hunt, H. P. Grant, E. Kerrison, B. Hutchison, A. Short, S. Vincent, A. Douglas, E. Foster, H. Offer, A. V. N. Shaw, G. B. Searle, and H. Edmonds. The fourth annual report of the committee was read by Mr. H. C. Short. This stated that the club had played altogether 26 matches, of which 18 had been won, 4 lost and 4 drawn, goals for 49, against 23. The first team had attained the proud position of being at the head of the Kingston and District League, thus holding the "Hunt Cup," presented by Mr. W. Hunt, and the League Championship medals, presented by Mr. V. Knapp. The results of the League contests were as follows:- Played 12, won 9, drawn 2, lost 1; goals for 18, goals against 8; points 18 (2 deducted). After many severe struggles the club reached the final stage of the Surrey Junior Cup Competition, but were then unfortunately defeated. Results of cup ties:- Played 8, won 5, drawn 2, lost 1; goals for 16, goals against 8. In friendly matches they played 6, won 4, lost 2, goals for 15, goals against 6. In the second division of the League 16 matches were played, 4 won, 4 drawn, 8 lost; goals for 26, against 36; points 12, out of a possible 32. Five friendlies have been played, winning 2, losing 2, drawn 1; goals for 9, against 3. The financial position had been considerably strengthened. Two years ago they were considerably in debt, but this year there was a credit balance of £8 lls. 6d. The Committee desired especially to thank the patrons and honorary members. It was the hope of a large number of members that they might have a private ground next season. New blood has been introduced into the team, and further promises have been made for next season, which will add materially to the strength of each rank in the club, and make it possible for them to enter, and they hoped win, both competitions in connection with the Surrey Football Association. It was with extreme regret that they had to report that their worthy hon. secretary, Mr. C. J. Bartlett, had been compelled through business reasons to resign his position. By his hard and consistent attention to the manifold duties which pertain to the office of secretary he has contributed mainly to the success of the club, and by his retirement they lose an official whose place it will be hard to fill. He merited hearty thanks for his unceasing labours, and would carry with him into his new sphere of life the sincere and best wishes of every one of the many friends he had made in Kingston. Arrangements are being made to hold a smoking concert, at which the League Cup and medals and the medals for the Junior Cup competition will be presented to the players. The balance sheet, which was presented by Mr. J. Ellison, one of the auditors, showed the receipts had been £25 17s. 10d., of which £12 14s. 6d. was from honorary members, and £4 8s. from playing members. The expenditure was £17 6s. 4d., thus leaving a balance of £8 lls. 6d. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Mr. Carn congratulated the club upon their proud position, and also said he was glad to see that the people of Kingston were supporting the club that had striven to represent the town. He regretted, however, to hear of the resignation of Mr. Bartlett, the honorary secretary.- Mr. Henwood seconded, and the motion was carried.- Mr. Collings moved a vote of thanks to the retiring officers, and this was seconded by Mr. Onley, and carried unanimously, Mr. Lanham suitably replying. The following officers were then elected for the ensuing year:- President, Mr. R. N. Ferguson; Vice-Presidents, Alderman G. C. Sherrard, Alderman E. T. Coppinger, Alderman W. Allard, Councillor J. Glover, and Messrs. S. Gray, J. Davidson, V. Knapp, W. G. Carn, W. Daws, J. Onley, C. Spearing, T. Pennington and J. P. Asher; captain, Mr. F. C. Lanham; vice-captain, Mr. H. P. Grant; general secretary. Mr. J. Ellison; match secretary, Mr. J. Douglas; captain A team, Mr. Edwards; vice-captain A team, Mr. Hutchison; secretary A team, Mr. W. Hurliman; committee, Messrs. J. P. Asher, W. G. Carn, J. Kemp, A. Buckwell, H. C. Short, W. Hall, W. Ocock, H. Offer, and E. Kerrison. It was decided, after some discussion, to enter next season for both the Senior and Junior Surrey cup competitions, as well as the Kingston and District League. Mr. W. G. Carn was unanimously nominated as the club delegate to the Surrey County F.C. Council, and the selection of other representatives to various bodies was left to the committee.- On the preposition of Mr. Asher, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Glover for presiding and the meeting terminated. |
