Report on Kingston-on-Thames A.F.C Annual General Meeting held on Monday 27th April 1986 from Surrey Comet dated 2 May 1896.

KINGSTON-ON-THAMES ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CLUB.-
The annual general meeting of the members of this club was held on Monday evening at the head quarters, the Cricketers' Inn Fairfield. Councillor J. Glover presided, and there were also present Messsrs. W. Hunt (treasurer), C. Bartlett (honorary secretary), F. Lanham (captain), W. Ocock (vice captain), A. Shaw, J. Kemp, J. Baker, E. Land, J. Henwood, H. Short, T. Glover, G. Thompson, W Hall, J. Fagan, J. Tully, Hutchinson, Goodwin, Duke and Barnett.

The report of the past season's doings was not so good as the committee would wish, but considering the difficulties that had arisen, it might have been worse. The resignations of Mr. Carn as honorary treasurer, and Mr. P. G. Lloyd, the experienced honorary secretary, in the middle of the season, were great drawbacks. In the early part of the season there was a dearth of playing members, which necessitated the scratching of the reserve fixtures for a month or so.

The first team had played 20 matches with fairly good clubs, winning 6, losing 10, 4 being drawn, scoring 29 goals against 39. The most meritorious victory was over Croydon-park, and the team at the end of the season was considered a credit to the club. Both first and second elevens entered for the Surrey cups. The reserves played 13 matches, won 4, lost 8, drew 1, scoring 24 goals against 40.

The committee hoped that every member would endeavour to do his best to secure players legitimately for next season, so that the club might run two teams in the league competition, and if possible win the cup. The report concluded by tendering the thanks of the committee to the honorary subscribers, the Press and the officers. The balance sheet showed the receipts to have been £13 18s. 3d., and the expenditure £13 8s 3d., thus leaving a balance of 10s. in hand. The report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted.

The following officers were then elected for the ensuing year:- Patron, Mr. T. Skewes-Cox, M.P.; president, Mr. R. N. Ferguson; vice-presidents, Sir H. Temple, Alderman G. C. Sherrard, J.P., Alderman Allard, J.P., Alderman Coppinger, J.P., and Messrs. S. Gray. D. Judd, J. Davidson and J. Glover; captain 1st XI., Mr. F. Lanham; vice-captain Mr. W. Ocock; the election of captain and vice-captain of the 2nd XI was left over until a later date; treasurer, Mr. W. Hunt; honorary secretary, Mr. C. Bartlett; assistant secretary, Mr. E. Land; committee Messrs H. Short, A. Shaw. H. Ansell, J. Kemp, J. Fagan, J. Henwood, W. Hall and A. Peck; representatives at the Kingston and District League, Messrs. C. Bartlett and J. Kemp;

Mr. A. Shaw was nominated as the representative of the club in the Surrey County F.A. Mr. Short having kindly offered two caps for the best player in each of the first and second teams, those were balloted for, that for the first eleven going to F. Lanham and for the second to E. Land. Mr. Hunt then said he would give two more for the runners-up, W. Ocock and J. Tully, 1st and 2nd teams respectively.

It was decided after some discussion that next season the club enter for the Surrey Junior cup only. Votes of thanks were accorded the president, vice-presidents, and officers of the club, and the Press, and a similar compliment to the chairman closed a most unanimous meeting.

Main report. See report in original format.

After the internal dissensions which at the time threatened the existence of the Kingston-on-Thames Association F. C., it was gratifying to all concerned to hear the satisfactory report presented at the annual general meeting on Monday evening, and if the harmonious feeling then exhibited is only maintained, next season's record should indeed be a good one.

When it is remembered that about midway through the season they were hardly able to raise an eleven, and for some time their reserve fixtures were scratched, it was highly creditable that the end of the season saw them with two good teams, while their first eleven was of good quality. Financially, too, they have come out far better than for some seasons past, having a balance carried forward on the right side.
