KINGSTON-ON-THAMES v. LONDON WELSH RESERVES (A).-
This match, which had been looked forward to with a great deal of interest,
proved rather disappointing on Saturday, on the Fairfield, Kingston, owing
to the Welshmen turning up five short. In order, however, to have a game
four substitutes were found for them, and they thus played one man short
all through. The match throughout was all in favour of Kingston, who scored
six goals to nil (Ocock 4, Peck 1, Kemp 1).
Several new members were played with conspicuous success, Morfett and
Collinson playing a sound game at back, while the halves also played good
football. The arrangement of the forwards this season has been considerably
altered, Peck playing with Kemp on the left, and Lloyd playing centre
forward instead of centre half-back. Ocock assumes his old place, and
still works as hard as ever. With a little practice together the team
ought to render a good account of itself.

The opening match
of the Kingston-on-Thames Association team on Saturday on the Fairfield
was somewhat of a disappointment, more especially as some good play was
anticipated from a team bearing the well-known name of London Welsh. The
hot weather may have had something to do with keeping half the team away,
but it was hardly what was to be expected from a club of such high reputation.
However, they came five short, and although four substitutes were found
for them, all interest in the match at once evaporated. Kingston won by
six goals to nil. Several new men were tried in the home side wIth success,
while some changes in the positions of the old players from those held
by them last season appeared to work smoothly, but it is impossible to
say if the effect will be beneficial or not until the team is brought
into contact with a full combination.
