Report on the requirement of the Football Association that member clubs should only play teams affiliated with the F.A., from Surrey Advertiser dated 7th October 1893.

THE FOOTBALL SEASON.
The policy of " boycotting" has now spread to football, as the outcome of the new rule of the Football Association compelling all clubs to become affiliated to the Football Association itself or to the local association, the object being officially stated as "not to increase the club membership of the Football Association, but to give local associations more supervision and control over clubs within their jurisdiction."
Although notices pointing out the new legislation have been sent to practically every club in Surrey, several have as yet failed to obey orders, and as a consequence the Surrey Association have prohibited affiliated clubs playing those not affiliated.
