ATHENIAN LEAGUE
Kingstonians lose to Summerstown after Leading by 3 goals.
Kingstonians were unlucky in losing their Athenian League match with Summerstown at Richmond-road ground on Saturday. They were the better team during greater part of the match, and to well within the second half were leading by three clear goals, but Summerstown, showing great determination during the latter stages of the game, eventually ran out winners by four goals to three. There was a good mustor of spectators, and the pressure of seeing the home side getting goals was evidently well appreciated.

Kingstonians opened in good style and were soon causing anxiety to the visiting defenders. Stentiford put a hard shot to the top corner of the goal, which Warrell with difficulty tipped away, and twice, from good centres by Wright, Henson went near to heading in. After about fifteen minutes' play, in which Summerstown were mainly on the defensive, Kingstonians opened the scoring, Henson, in trying to get through from a well placed pass by Wright, being fouled in the penalty area. Daniells took the kick, and Warrell stopped his shot, but, following up, Daniells caught the ball on the rebound and netted easily.

For a period after this play was more even, and one or two good openings were missed by the visiting forwards. Wright, whose play on the wing was throughout excellent, made several good runs. He finished one such run after beating two or three opponents, with a hard shot at goal which Blaber kicked over for a corner. Dadswell and Rayner, and Pratt in wing runs, made a number of promising efforts for the visitors, and Warner saved well from Wood. Half-an-hour had elapsed when Kingstonian scored their second goal. This followed some close play in the goal area during which Warrell ran out to clear, and, before he had returned, the ball was again put forward and Daniells hooked it into the net.

Immediately from the kick-off the Kingstonian forwards got away and scored again. Wright was chiefly responsible for the point, beating two defenders and sending the ball across the goalmouth for Hanson to gently tap into the net. This was the extent of the scoring at half time- more flattering to Kingstonians than the balance of play justified.

Summerstown pressed early in the second half but for a quarter of an hour or so play was mostly in mid-field and rather dull. Much good work was done on the Summerstown right, where Wood, incidentally, was given too many clear runs. and from one centre by Wood, Pease,
who played brilliantly at centre-half all but scored with a fine piece of headwork.

It was Pease who opened the scoring for Summerstown. The home defenders were being penned in, and receiving from a short clearance he scored with a fast shot. For a period the exchanges again favoured the home side, Henson and Wright, with excellent short passing and some pretty headwork, leading in attacks. It was a pity the left wing was not equally energetic, but Crick was quite off form, and Daniells was not at his best. Wood, again left unmarked, made a run which ended in Summerstown again scoring. Near the corner flag the ball was forced into touch, and, from the throw in, was placed in the goal mouth, where Pease, taking advantage of hesitation by the two home backs nipped between them and scored.

In further efforts by Kingstonians Yates did well in combination with the right wing and one low shot of his was with difficulty saved by Warrell. As the half wore on, however, Kingstonians gradually fell away, and from the second of two corners Rayner headed in the equalising goal, Warner getting his hands to the ball but being unable to save it.

Straight from the kick-off Summerstown forwards got away and scored again, through Rayner who beat Warner with a hard, low shot. Kingstonians made great efforts in the few remaining minutes to get a point, and Henson had hard luck with a header just over the bar from Crick's centre. It was not to be, however, and the final score was:-
