Report on trial match played on Saturday 23rd August 1919 from Surrey Comet dated 27th August 1919.

Kingstonian F.C.
Football is said to be a young man's game while it is also declared that "Youth will be served."' Quite so: But Saturday's practice match held by the Kingstonian F.C. revealed the fact, that the club has more to expect from the oft-tried veterans of pre-war seasons than from most of the youngsters, at least as regards the premier team. Fortunately, however, in these days a man may be a veteran, and yet still be fairly young in years. The Kingstonians should have little difficulty in getting their three teams to work well once the season starts, and it is hoped and expected that they will be pretty well up in their respective classes.

Among the players who chiefly distinguished themselves on Saturday evening one was most impressed by Mansey, Garratt, Andrews, Sheehy, and one or two other senior footballers of 1914 and before. Harry Mansey was always dangerous as a wing forward, and haying kept up his game whilst in the Army, he is still a player of merit. Garratt, one of the first of the O.K.'s, was well to the fore with strong kicking and good footwork at back, whilst Andrews at the outside-left position, although hampered by non-sporting attire, put in a lot of good work. As for "Pat" Sheehy, he was just the same old "Pat"; no more need be said.

Several expected players of repute failed to turn out. It is understood that Company Sergt. Major Rowe, East Surrey Regiment, the well-known amateur footballer and Kingston F.C. player, is expected to join the Depot staff shortly, in which case he will most probably play for the Kingstonians.
