FOOTBALL.
Kingston's New Club: Season's Prospects. League Matches and Cup-Ties. From what remained of the Kingston-onThames F.C. and Old Kingstonians F.C. a club has been formed which will be known as Kingstonian FC., and the ground question has been settled by the tenancy of an enclosure in Richmond-road which for a very long period has been identified with sport in the borough. To consolidate the new position of affairs there was a gathering at the Three Tuns, London-road, on Monday night, of those interested. Sir W. Yarworth Jones, president in 1913-14 of the Old Kingstonians' F.C., was in the chair, and amongst those present were Mr. P. J. Sheehy, who. since his return from the war, has been most active in an endeavour to reconstruct the town's football, and Mr. Alfred North, also an enthusiast in the rebuilding of sport. In placing details before the meeting Sir W. Yarworth Jones briefly stated the history of the two clubs, and added that, in his opinion neither had been accorded the financial support to which they were entitled. He was confident, however, that the fusion of interests would be attended by an era of prosperity if reconstructional efforts proceeded on the right lines. In relation thereto he suggested that in about a month's time a town's meeting should be held to consider certain proposals having for their object the acquiring of another ground which should be the centre of the borough's sport in all seasons. Meantime it was their immediate duty to get the football club ready for the quickly approaching period of play. The circumstances of the period had resulted in a debt of about £116 and that must be cleared in order that the new organisation should start with a perfectly clean sheet. A sports meeting was proposed for the August Bank holiday, and subscriptions should be obtained. He was prepared to guarantee the subscriptions, and the profits from the sports meeting up to £200-(applause)-and he would at once place at the disposal of the club that amount in order to dear the debt of £115, the balance (£35) to be for current needs. With regard to competitions it was very gratifying to know that the Athenian League had accepted their entry, and that a number of other competitions would be taken part in. He regarded it as of the first importance to form a strong reserve team. Draft rules were then submitted, a proposal being that honorary members' subscriptions should be not less than 10s. 6d. These were adopted, and the meeting then proceeded to the election of officers. The election of Sir W. Yarworth Jones as president, was moved by Mr. A. North, who referred to the generous support which Sir Yarworth had accorded to Kingston football in the past, and its continuance, coupled with much personal energy, in the present movement. Mr. G. Batson, in seconding the proposal, spoke of Sir Yarworth-Jones' great kindness in all matters pertaining to the OId Kingstonians F.C. The election. was unanimous. Sir Yarworth Jones, returning thanks, said be was glad to have been able to assist in putting Kingston football on a proper basis, and he was quite optimistic as to the future. At their next meeting he hoped to give further details as to the proposed new ground. (Applause.) Other officers were elected as follows: Hon. secretary, Mr. A. North, Chesfield villas, Chesfield Road, Kingston: hon assistant secretary, Mr. C. Brockwell: team secretary, Mr. T. Wiggins; hon. treasurer pro tem, Mr. G. Batson; committee: Messrs. P. J. Sheehy, S. Emms, F. W. Pavey, Barrett, Powell, West and Joseph, with power to add to their number; ground committee, Messrs. Emery, Hallett, Robinson, Jewell and Kerrison. It was agreed that the suggested sports meeting should be held on the Richmond-Road ground on August Bank holiday and its arrangement was left in the hands of a committee. The meeting closed with a cordial vote of thanks to the president, at the instance of Mr. C. Spearing. See
